My husband asked me to marry him when we went on our first date. I was a bit taken back with the question, I was like you don’t even know me. He said I know enough and the kind of woman you are right now.
Today is our 5 year wedding anniversary. On this day I vowed to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, cherish, and to obey, till death us do part. Those vows are powerful, and marriage is work. In our marriage we have experienced just about everyone of those words described in the vows. Y’all can act like marriage is easy if you want to, and maybe it is for you. If it is, I tip my hat to you and yours. But as for me, I’m here to tell ya, it takes some serious commitment, prayer, work and whatever else you have deep down inside of you.
We got married at the St Louis Wedding Chapel, they were very professional and extremely friendly. I was nervous. We eloped, so we needed a witness, which they had someone there to witness our marriage. Since we both have been married before, we just wanted to get married, no fuss and with as little cost as possible. The wedding pictures were a part of the package. I still love them. He chose the day, which was his mother’s 80th birthday. She passed away the year before we got married in 2011.
Our wedding day 2012
My husband is an retired Army veteran, a tough man who says exactly what’s on his mind, absolutely no filters. That was a hard pill for me, he reminded me of my mother. He’s my love, confidant, friend and a wonderful provider for his family. He doesn’t realize I see it, but has a hard exterior and a kind heart that he doesn’t let out often. I’m the opposite of him, what he needed in his life, and I’ve been told that by several people in his family, his momma used to tell me that all the time. Between the two of us we have six children, and four grandchildren.
