Learning To Knit

I don’t have much planned this summer, so I decided to teach myself how to knit, with the help and advice of some of my favorite knitters on YouTube and my love Gaye of ggmadeit.com. I own 4 sets of knitting needles, two metal and two bamboo.   YouTube has so many videos, I didn’t know where or who to start with, so I picked Chandi with Expression Fiber Arts. Here’s her video if you are interested in learning.

The video was very easy for me to follow and I enjoyed her style of teaching. I was tense when I started this past weekend, and I can already tell the difference when I relaxed and remembered to have fun at this. I have several crochet friends that have taught themselves to knit. Here’s my progress so far, lots of errors, but it will get better. I’m using a medium weight yarn.

One thing I’ve noticed about knitting verses crocheting, the item you are knitting has more stretch to it, crocheting brings more density to the item. I can tell I’m going to enjoy knitting, so much I want to do. I’m just gonna continue with this and compare my beginning, middle and end to see my progress. Here’s a swatch I made last year, the yarn was a bulky weight yarn. I had to put it down because I was busy with orders and didn’t have time to practice.

I’ll keep you all posted on my progress and when I decide it’s time to knit my first piece from a pattern. You are never too old to learn, never. Smooches!
